0 Stephen E. Ambrose - American historian and biographer

 Stephen Edward Ambrose was famous American historian and biographer of U.S. Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. He was a long time professor of history at the University of New Orleans and the author of several best selling volumes of American popular history. Beginning late in his life and continuing after his death, however, proof and reports have continued to surface documenting long time patterns of plagiarism, falsification, and inaccuracy in many of his published writings and other work. In reaction to one of the early reports, Ambrose said he was not "out there stealing other people's writings."

In 1998, he got the National Humanities Medal. In 2000, Ambrose got the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the top honorary award the Department of Defense offers to civilians. In 2001, he was awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Medal for illustrious Service from the Theodore Roosevelt Association. Ambrose won an Emmy as one of the producer for the mini-series Band of Brothers. Ambrose also got the George Marshall Award, the Abraham Lincoln Literary Award, and the Bob Hope Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, and the Will Rogers Memorial Award.

Thanksgiving is a holiday famous in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. It has publicly been an annual tradition since 1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, Nov 26. As a federal and popular holiday in the U.S., it is one of the major holidays of the year. Together with Christmas and the New Year, Thanksgiving is a part of the broader holiday period.

The event that Americans usually call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated to give thanks to God for guide them safely to the New World. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days, given that enough food for 53 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. The dinner consisted of fish and shellfish, wild fowl, venison, berries and fruit, vegetables, harvest grains (barley and wheat), and the Three Sisters: beans, dried Indian maize or corn, and squash. The New England colonists were familiar to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings" days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture engraved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. Sculpted by Gutzon Borglum and later on by his son Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60-foot sculpture of the heads of former United States presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The whole memorial covers 1,278.45 acres and is 5,725 feet above sea level. Borglum decisive the sculpture should have a further national focus, and chose the four presidents whose likenesses would be carved into the mountain.

After securing federal funding, building on the memorial began in 1927, and the presidents' faces were finished between 1934 and 1939. Upon Gutzon Borglum's death in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took more construction. Though the primary concept called for each president to be depicted from head to waist, lack of funding enforced construction to end in October 1941. The U.S. National Park Service took control of the memorial in 1933, while it was still in construction, and control the memorial to the present day. It attracts around two million people annually.

Maya Angelou is one of the American autobiographer and poet who has been called "America's most visible black female autobiographer" by scholar Joanne M. Braxton. She is well known for her series of six autobiographical volumes, which focus on her childhood and early on adult experiences. The first and most greatly acclaimed, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1969), tells of her first seventeen years. It brought her international respect, and was nominated for a National Book Award. She has been awarded over 30 honorary degree and was selected for a Pulitzer Prize for her 1971 volume of poetry, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie.

Angelou was a member of the Harlem Writers Guild in the late 1950s, was active in the Civil Rights movement, and served as Northern Coordinator of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Southern Christian Leadership Conference. A Tony Award nomination for her position in the 1973 play Look Away, and three Grammys for her spoken word albums. In 1995, Angelou's publishing company, Bantam Books, known her for having the longest running record on The New York Times Paperback factual Bestseller List. In 1998, she was induct into the National Women's Hall of Fame. She has provide on two presidential committees, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2000 and the Lincoln Medal in 2008. Musician Ben Harper has privileged Angelou with his song "I'll Rise", which include words from her poem, "And Still I Rise." She has been awarded above thirty honorary degrees.
